RIZAL’S LAST 24 HOURS

Rizal woke up at 5:30 am despite of physically and mentally fatigue he had in previous days. He wrote 2 letters.
1. For his family
2. Paciano

Rizal also wrote his Farewell poem “ Ultimo adios”

5:30 am
-        Josephine arrived at 5:30am accompanied by Josefa. With tears in her eyes, she embrace Rizal.

-        Rizal gave his last gifts to Josephine: Book of Thomas Kemphis: Imitation of Christ
-        Rizal wrote a letter for his mother but he was not able to "complete it".



6:30 am
Beginning of Rizal Death March
Rizal wore Black suit & vest and black hat.
He walked serenely as if nothing will happen to him.

Behind Rizal is Lieutenant Taviel de Andrade, Father March and Father Villaclara and Platoon of Spanish Soldiers. Upon arriving in Bagumbayan, he bid goodbye to Taviel Andrade , to the 2 oriest and Josephine.

Dr. Felipe Castillo (Military Physician) checked his pulsed and found it normal. Before the execution, Rizal requested to be shot facing his executioners considering he was not a traitor but was denied and rizal should be shot by the back.

Trumpet sound again signaling to the execution. Officers shouted Fuego , firing squad rang out in a row , Rizal slowly turned his back to the firing squad, faces the sea and fell to the ground.

7:03 am
-     At exactly 7:03 am RIZAL shouted “Consummatum Est” before the shot run out. The hero’s life ended. Military band played "Marcha de Cadiz- (Spain national Hymn)" and shouted VIVA ESPAÑA & MUERTE A LOS TRAIDORES (DEATH OF THE TRAITORS)


-        After the Americans had taken Manila, Narcisa requested the new government to grant her permission to exhume the body of his brother.





-        They found out that the body was never placed in a coffin, nor even wrapped by anything. Rizal’s family had possession of the body the remains were instituted at the base of the Rizal monument which was erected at the center of the Luneta.
